And because there's a real yurt underneath all that thatch, your Burrow isn't tied to one patch of earth.
A real yurt… plus a little magic
The Burrow Yurt may look as though it grew out of the hillside, but underneath the thatch is a genuine Tamerlane Yurt - built using the same proven construction we've refined over more than twenty years. Traditional lattice walls and wooden rafters create a strong, open interior with no center pole, while marine-grade canvas forms the weather-resistant shell. The lattice and rafters integral to the structure also give you plenty of places to hang lanterns, textiles, clothing, storage and all the little things that turn a round room into a home.

Real palm thatch gives the Burrow its wonderfully shaggy roofline and unmistakable storybook character, and casts beautiful woven shadows when inside
Signature Round Door
The centerpiece of every Burrow! The double-hinged arms allow the door to rotate at the center for a peek, or swing it entirely clear! You decide just how open your Burrow feels.
Four Round Windows
Large round windows bring light and air into the Burrow, each with its own closable exterior canvas flap. Custom positioning is available!
Old-World Hardware
No plastic fakes here! Real metal hinges + latches give the door real weight & character, including reclaimed + vintage pieces when available
Solid-wood face frame
Our wide, welcoming entrance looks finished with or without the door. Remove it for an open-air gathering, pavilion-style Burrow - attach it when you want a proper front door.
Room to Make it Yours
The lattice walls & rafters provide natural hanging points for lanterns, clothing, banners, storage and décor - leaving the floor open for sleeping, gathering, or simply making yourself at home.
Make It Yours
No two Burrows need to tell the same story! Choose your door color and finishing details, and we'll work with you to give your Burrow a personality of its own. Want something quiet and woodland-worn? Bright and cheerful? A workshop? A guest retreat? A fantastical rental tucked in the trees?
The first Burrow Yurt began with a question: Could we take everything we knew about building real yurts and create something that felt as though it belonged in another world? Now we're opening our first customer production slots.

Give your Burrow a proper name and we'll create a custom wooden sign for it to mount the door, face frame or anywhere, along with a 2nd sign for your family, mailbox, or whatever story your burrow is going to tell.

2-Tone Door Finish
Every Burrow owner chooses their door color. Founding owners get a 2nd color at no additional charge. Contrast the door braces, choose a two-tone wash, or give the inside and outside of your door completely different personalities.
Free Delivery + Setup
We bring your Burrow and help put it up for the first time - within 100 miles of our NJ workshop, or deliver it to the Brandywine Festival. For customers farther we'll apply the value as a credit toward delivery.
Personal Interior Design Consultation
Before construction, we'll talk through how you’ll use your Burrow and help develop the interior layout—guest house, workshop, tavern, or something entirely your own.
Each Founding Burrow will carry a small numbered maker's plaque identifying its place in the earliest generation of ThatchTop Burrows. Our original blue-door prototype is No. 001, our Woodwright's Workshop Burrow is No. 002, and our first customer Burrow begins with No. 003.

The ThatchTop Burrow is currently offered as a 16′ yurt, providing more than 200 square feet of open interior space.

Yes. At heart, it's still a yurt. The structure can be disassembled, transported, and set up again somewhere new. Beneath the storybook exterior is the same traditional lattice-wall and rafter construction at the heart of our other Tamerlane Yurts.

Yes. Door color is your choice. Founding Burrow owners can also choose a complimentary second color for contrasting braces, a two-tone finish, or different interior and exterior colors.

Probably! Every Burrow is built individually. If you have something special in mind, we'd much rather hear the idea than have you assume we can't do it.

Beneath the thatch is a weather-resistant yurt shell built using the same fundamental materials and construction as our traditional yurts. We'll talk through climate and intended use with you before your build.
